feeling the cool air as i stepped outside, being surrounded by a magical glow of brilliant colors as rain drizzled from the sky and off the wet trees (and moments later seeing a hint of mist or fog near other trees in the distance), and being almost completely by myself with no one else on the path/sidewalk the whole way to the park (and barely any cars driving by), it felt like i was in a dream. its beautiful how nature can so perfectly express itself in the combination of all of these aspects as the storm quickly passed just in time for an amazing golden hour. although its been over a decade since i visited hawaii, the tropical feeling reminded me a bit of being out there exploring a couple of the islands.

we are not here to follow the ways of life that anyone else dictates to us.

we are here to be creators of our own lives & our own reality.

we have the power and freedom to choose to live any way we choose.

we can choose love, peace, and compassion, over any separation or division that outside forces are causing or wanting us to experience.

if anyone is afraid that the world might end up in a dark place, relax and know that there are already well more than enough of us whom have awakened & whom are aligned with the light that this won't happen.  the golden age is just around the corner, and the more of us that continue to awaken & focus on the light, the more quickly we will see signs of the golden age unfolding in the physical world.

one whom is awakened with a compassionate heart must sometimes be careful not to get caught up in negativity when helping another with lower energies.  just as one can be uplifted by sitting in the presence of a being with higher energy, one can also be influenced negatively by one with lower energy.  remember to regularly tune focus & attention to a positive, higher energy, preferably directly from the highest divine source.  especially when there is a lot of fear in the collective, keep returning to the unconditional love & peace that one finds deep within one's heart when connected to the divine.

#nature #trees #walk #park #water #lake #clouds
remember, that when reading, hearing, or watching anything, to listen carefully to your own heart to see what aspects resonate with you.  even if you do believe a lot or most of what someone is saying, don't just accept everything else they say if those parts aren't true to you.  at the same time, don't completely disregard someone if a part of what they are saying isn't something you believe or like.  take whatever resonates with you (or what you feel you need to hear) and leave the rest.  sometimes the divine speaks to us through others, but the message may not always be in the exact words they are saying.  listen from your heart, and you'll know what is real and what is meant for you.  and if you feel triggered or upset (or something else) when listening from the heart, the message may have simply been what you needed to hear in order to experience and release an emotion that was trapped within.  a greater part of the truth happens through feeling, rather than through thinking or understanding with the mind.

#nature #goldenhour #trees #park #sunset
when one learns to fully surrender into the present moment, one realizes there is a divine perfection beneath all of the chaos.  from this place, a deep sense of gratitude for being alive to experience it all may arise.

[it seems that the more one (or humanity as a whole) chooses to constantly be living from the mind (and its need to constantly be doing something), the stronger the divine call to relax, just be, and live from the heart becomes.  take this time, right now, to stop any activity (or distractions) and to simply be still & fully embrace anything you are feeling in this very moment.]

on april 6 this year i purchased my first electric vehicle, a 2016 Fiat 500e.  previously leased with very low mileage, it had a hint of new car smell to it.  it's fully electric with a smaller battery, making it a low range EV, though, by driving efficiently, one can get significantly more range between charges than the EPA rating.

in the first month of owning it, i drove a total of 1523.7 miles, averaging 5.7 mi/kWh.  at the nationwide average cost per kWh, that’s just over 2 cents per mile. even if the trip computer is optimistic and there are efficiency losses when charging the battery, it’s still under 3 cents per mile.  i did drive slowly + conservatively (and with windows down rather than air conditioning) in order to maximize efficiency to be able to go far without draining the battery too low, though even driving a bit faster or with A/C, the cost will still be far less than what it’d cost with a gas car.

with electricity being so inexpensive it opens one up to be able to explore more (and without any emissions that an internal combustion engine vehicle would have). if i would've driven all those same miles in the van i had, it would have cost me $200 more for the gas than the electricity costs.  saving a couple hundred dollars a month surely adds up.. looking at this number alone, the car will pay for itself in less than 5 years and will effectively be free. (some electric vehicles can be purchased used at a much lower price than new)

besides the financial savings, electric cars perform much better, are much quieter, have practically no maintenance, and have much less of an environmental impact than a car that burns gas or diesel.  we’re just starting the global transition to electric vehicles.. it’s exciting to be driving the future.

if you're in need of a car, i would strongly encourage you to get an electric vehicle.  besides helping prevent climate change, you'll have a much better driving experience.  some new models have bigger battery packs that can go as far as gas cars and can charge very quickly.  even with a higher initial price, a new electric car will cost less to own than a gasoline car with the savings in maintenance and gas.

i woke up in a parking lot on the point reyes peninsula and began exploring at dawn.  it was quite stunning to be somewhere so beautiful and experience the early morning light.  i wandered about the national seashore as the sun rose and discovered parts of it i never knew existed.  living life on the road was incredible when waking up in such magnificent places.. yes, there were challenges to living out of such a small space, though to get to stay in unique places and be right there during the most brilliant times of day was awesome and inspiring.  this world is really incredibly beautiful and filled with so many majestic places.. you only need to go wander and allow yourself to discover them.

after leaving point reyes, i followed california route 1's winding drive south on the cliffs.  i made some stops to take in the beautiful views on my way to muir woods.  while at muir woods national monument, i hiked a long trail past where all the tourists were and ended up at the panoramic highway before turning around.  on the way out of muir woods, i drove the panoramic highway the long way back to route 1, and then made my way toward sausalito and the marin headlands.  i barely fit the truck in the one parking spot i found on the street in sausalito and walked down to the shops and water for a bit.  at marin headlands, the golden hour light on the city and bridge was really nice as the sun was setting.

i then crossed the golden gate bridge and passed through san francisco on my way to meet a friend for dinner in alameda.  it was many years since i last saw him in college and he had grown and transformed quite a bit.  when it came up in the conversation, i liked how he described it as when he "found himself". it was great and inspiring to see him and learn of his success.  he'd been loving life in california and suggested places to check out.  after dinner, i drove to a nearby green spot on the map in hopes of finding a quiet place to park for the night.  it seemed to always be a challenge finding a spot when it was dark, especially in or near urban areas.  i ended up on the side of the road near homes and kept the top down.

this was a slow day.  i went with my friend to town in the morning for breakfast.. we were gonna spend a while at a local coffee shop in town, though had to cut the trip short when we remembered that we had left the neighbor's water running to fill the tank where my friend was housesitting.  back there, i spent most of the day working on the computer and my friend ran a couple of errands.  it was nice to get to use a real shower where my friend was housesitting, though i had to keep it short since their well had run dry or something that they had to borrow the water from the neighbors.  it was a really beautiful area in this part of washington.. the mountain range was visible nearby and there was a rural feel to the homes that were just up the road from town.

four years ago today [2012.09.18]

after spending a couple nights at the first campground on the trip, i was back on the road.  i stopped at a town up the road, wenatchee, and discovered a nice little local grocery store.  it had lots of healthy and specialty foods that i’d never seen before.  i ended up trying quite a bit and liked most, if not all, of what i had discovered.  there was a really nice girl who worked there that told me about a good hike to lake ann when i mentioned heading over to the north cascades national park.  i didn’t end up going to that part of the park though it was nice to meet friendly people along my journey.

on the way to the park, i saw lots of haze and smoke from recent fires.  when getting up into higher elevations, i began to find some breathtaking views of the mountains, some of which still had a little snow or ice on them.  after leaving an overlook, i kept heading down the road to see what else i would find.  i wanted to stop at a nice spot where i could photograph the stars over the mountains.  i almost regretted leaving the area where i was as i wasn’t seeing anything for a while.  a bit later, i found one spot along the side of the road a little later though it wasn’t quite what i was looking for.. less than ten minutes up the road, i found a nice spot overlooking ross lake just as the day was ending.  i spent the night here sleeping under the stars.

remember that in any given moment one is free to choose peace, regardless of the circumstances.

the more of us that choose to remain in a peaceful place at all times, the more quickly we'll see peace unfold everywhere in our collective reality.

it is up to us to individually discover inner peace so that we may see peace reflected in the outer world.

#nature #walk #trees #park #peace
if you're feeling stuck in life, often all you need is a new perspective.  if you've been looking at life a certain way (or through the viewpoint of a certain teacher, leader, influencer, etc), simply exploring the perspective of another may open your eyes to what you need to see or hear (and the new perspective may come from a source you didn't necessarily expect.. simply follow your heart and intuition, and you'll be guided along to whatever you need to see, learn, or experience). in repeatedly hearing the same underlying message in the same ways, it may become dull and no longer effective.  hearing someone else who's essentially saying the same thing you've already heard, but using different words or a new vantagepoint, may be exactly what allows you to open your eyes and heart to the message you need to hear and feel.  with anything in life, its good to take a break from what you're doing if you're doing it all the time.  time away from a project, goal, practice, or everyday life will allow you to explore other possibilities and create the space in which you can start over (as you feel called to) from a more energized place.

#nature #trees #flying #dji #mavic #mini #rc #quadcopter #drone #aerialvideo #dronevideo #mavicmini #aerial #birdseyeview #lookingdown #fromabove
it is time for all of us to let go of any tribalism.  while one may be interested in a particular group (and some may be really helpful in what they do), separation can easily occur through a group mentality.  the more attached one is to any particular viewpoint or group, the more prone one is to see or judge another as wrong (and the more prone one is to be manipulated by dogma, indoctrination, propaganda, or programming that can easily be introduced via the influential mechanism of the group). most people can easily see some of the division caused by people being for (or against) a certain political party, religion, sports team, nation, company, leader, technological preference, way of life, or any other sort of large group or thing that compartmentalizes people.

while one benefit that some may feel by partaking in something with like-minded people is a sense of inclusiveness, we can all easily feel this same sense of belonging through our humanity alone.  as we take our energy back from any divisive group thinking (or limited viewpoints), we can use our energy (that was previously being used to judge outsiders as wrong) to connect more openly with others.  these heartfelt connections will be much more impactful in one's life than any limited belief can give.  and if one wants to grow and ascend on a spiritual path, one must learn to embrace all viewpoints as part of the greater whole.

it is only through our individual sovereignty that we can truly gather together as one in our collective humanity.

#nature #trees #sunset #clouds #sky #water #reflection #dusk #park #bikeride #lake
as we are grateful in remembering & celebrating all that our human mothers have done for us, let us also remember & honor our planetary mother earth, for without her none of us would be here.

#nature #sky #sunset #dusk #colors #earth #trees
as human beings, the most important thing we can do right now is to come together, not in fear, blame, worry, hate, nor any other negative emotion directed toward anything out there, but rather in the peace, harmony, unconditional love, and unity that higher consciousness brings.  as more and more of us learn to transcend the conditioning of the mind, we will effortlessly step into this place where we are united as one collective being, free from any external negative influence and able to create a beautiful new earth, where all naturally live in harmony with each other and the planet.

#nature #park #walk #tree #trees #goldenhour #lookingup
do not judge, criticize, or condemn anyone whom might have a different belief than you, regardless of how bad it may seem.  others' views, beliefs, and actions are merely a product of where one is in consciousness, and one can only do as good as they can given their level of consciousness.  if any given level of consciousness appears to not be helpful to others or the world, rather than use your energy blaming those whom don't know any better, direct your focus, attention, and energy towards helping more & more people (including yourself) heal, awaken, and continue to raise the overall level of consciousness. through our collective growth we will transform human consciousness and create a beautiful new earth where we all live as one, in peace & perfect harmony with each other and the planet. (also remember that the reflection they played, regardless of how bad or wrong it was, may have been exactly what you or another needed in order to grow to higher levels of consciousness)

#nature #healing #trees #earth #aerial #fromabove #birdseyeview #lookingdown #flying #dji #mavic #mini #rc #quadcopter #drone #aerialvideo #dronevideo #mavicmini #goldenhour #light
together let us call forth the complete healing, permanent awakening, and flowering of the heart of all of humanity.  from this place, a new earth will naturally unfold to reflect the beauty we all radiate from within, and we'll all be able to live in perfect harmony with each other & the planet. -
as the collective consciousness awakens and we live from a more heart-centered place, we will naturally create a beautiful world where all will live with good health, well-being, happiness, peace, love, joy, abundance, clean air, organic food, sustainability, renewable & free energy, zero emissions transportation, resilient shelter, a healed climate, many natural spaces, etc, etc.  in this new earth we will see the end of war, violence, greed, control, fear, domination, oppression, hate, and anything else created by the mind that no longer serves us.

#nature #healing #awakening #newearth #beauty #trees #goldenhour
rather than feeling stuck or afraid of uncertainty, learn to meditate to quiet your mind, and spend time visualizing and feeling what you want to see unfold in the world.

[and don't be afraid to dream up the most beautiful human experience on earth you can imagine, regardless of whether or not you believe its possible.  remember, all is possible through the eyes of the divine source.  may all of humanity live in peace and harmony with each other and the planet.  and may we all experience well-being, inner peace, abundance, and unconditional love, as we step into a new age, a new earth.]

i spent last friday night and saturday morning on the blue ridge parkway south of asheville. it was nice and clear with plenty of stars above, and besides some cars occasionally passing by, very quiet. i remembered one of the reasons i got the van and how i really enjoyed exploring. the couple long days of driving no longer mattered when i found myself in the beautiful midst of nature.

some shots on the journey from florida to chicagoland [2017.07.12 - 2017.07.20]

on the first day of the drive north, i took a detour toward orlando to check out some tiny homes and meet a friend whom i hadn't seen in years. it was nice to see her, meet her husband, and feel inspired to go back to the avatar course in the future. after chatting for a bit, i left to make my way toward my cousin's place just outside atlanta, sleeping in a parking lot between a hotel and restaurant on the way up as it was late and i was getting tired. it was good to take the break, as in the morning i got to see the rolling hill landscape that i would've missed driving at night. atlanta had good food and a nice feel to the city (and neighboring towns/burbs) with winding roads, hills, and many trees that were much more pleasant than a typical city grid.

after spending a few days with my cousin, i visited a friend near chattanooga and met her family. we walked the long pedestrian bridge over the river and checked out part of the city, which also had a nice feel to it. i then stopped by the isha center in tennessee on my way toward chicagoland. when i arrived, i was a little surprised when the girl at the welcome center told me i could go to the meditation/ceremony that was starting soon (i thought i had missed it as i forgot i crossed into the central time zone on the way there.. my phone wasn't getting service most of the whole trip so still showed eastern time). the dinner hall was nice as everyone ate in silence. afterward, i sat by a small garden area and enjoyed the peacefulness of the grounds.

the next day, i discovered a wilderness preserve on my way toward kentucky and explored there for a bit. i also explored around the land between the lakes national recreation area. i was thinking of staying there overnight though i couldn't find the spot i had discovered a few years earlier, and there was still plenty of daylight left, so i headed toward garden of the gods in southern illinois. i was going to stay there, though i was feeling pretty sweaty as it was a hot day and i had been driving with the windows open the whole day. not having plumbing installed yet, i walked a little bit of the trail, took a few photos, had a snack, and decided to drive the rest of the way to my friend's place so i could shower before going to sleep. i also figured there'd be no traffic driving the small country roads up the state at night. by the time i went to sleep, the early morning light of the next day was beginning to show and i had been up for almost 24 hours straight without a nap.

the van build isn't fully complete yet, so the journey was shorter and with less stops along the way than it would've been, though i still decided to take back roads the whole way. i more than doubled the number of miles on the van on the trip up. the trip meter for the drive up read 1547.5 miles with a little over 35.5 hours of driving. per the meter, i averaged 19.7 mpg the whole trip, and i saw right around 22 mpg for the last tank (and when i had cruise control at 57 mph) which i was pretty happy with (though i'll have to determine how accurate the trip meter calculation is).

more than once during the trip i had just enough gas to make it to the next town that had a gas station. luckily that last night something told me to call the gas station on my way there (and i actually had a signal to do so).. they ended up leaving the pumps on a few extra minutes for me to get there as they were about to close. i ended up going a couple miles past the 0 miles range left indicator too. if i hadn't called, i would have had to sleep at the gas station all night until it opened the next morning or risk attempting to drive to the next one miles away without knowing if i had enough fuel to make it. sometimes navigation was a bit tricky without a phone signal to download the map data, though besides not finding the one spot in the recreation area (which i didn't remember exactly where it was anyhow), i managed to make my way pretty much on course until i got enough of a signal to find towns that had gas stations. luckily i usually didn't have to go too long without a signal before i got one where i could start the turn by turn directions (which downloaded all the data needed for my route to the next stop, so it'd continue to work even when i lost a signal). it was also nice that the google maps app was able to provide navigation solely via local roads.

i explore the avenue of the giants when i woke up this morning.. it was really amazing and beautiful.  i felt a connection to the trees when i hugged one, and was sad as i neared the end of the avenue of the giants.  the giant redwood trees were so magnificent.. it's really sad that 96% of the trees that once stood are gone because of logging.  i'm grateful that more people are becoming aware of the negative impact humans have had on the planet.  as more of us learn of the harm that has been caused to nature because of society's need to continually consume more, we'll start to see great changes in how people are treating the environment.  it's already begun to happen as consciousness has increased and more of us have started to focus on sustainability, collaboration, and simplicity over consumption, competition, and greed.

i headed south and got on california route 1 where it began at u.s. highway 101.. i took the long, winding road up, down, and around the hills toward the coast.  somehow i made it the whole way when my truck was just about out of gas, and the gas station just before getting on route 1 had some issue.. either the pumps weren't working, they were out of gas, or i saw that it was a no name station and i didn't trust the quality of gas.  it was a bit nerve-racking driving to the coast.. i didn't know how many more changes there'd be in elevation on the way there, and the truck drank a lot of gas going uphill.  i don't recall how many miles the truck was saying were left on the tank.. it may have been in single digits or zero.  i stopped at the first gas station on the map, a little community mart that happened to have one pump.  it was the worst spot i ever got gas from with an ancient pump that was really dirty and may have been rusty.  it had handwritten signs on it with the price and instructions.  at $5 a gallon and 24.982 gallons, it was the most i ever spent on gas.  i know i didn't have to fill it up, though i either wanted to see how low it really was or didn't really worry once i started the pump.  on the coast, i saw nice views, explored a couple of spots, and spent the night at an overlook.

i left the campground and filled up one of the containers of propane for the first time.  it'd be good to have it ready to go so i could easily switch it out if the current one ran out again when it was cold.  i then headed back east towards the north cascades to sauk mountain.  it was a bumpy, winding switchback dirt road up to the top.  i don't remember if the girl i had run into a couple days before told me about it or if i had found out from someone else or just seen it on the map.  it was pretty steep and a bit of journey to get up and down it.  on the way up, i got 4.1 mpg and on the way down 44.4 mpg.  on the way down, i had the truck in 2nd or 3rd gear in 4x4 low so i wouldn't have to brake most of the way.  at the parking lot up top, i could see the peaks of nearby mountains over the top of the low clouds.

i then headed back west and north toward the canadian border.  in the middle of the day i discovered that most of my electrical components were not received power.  it was a friday and i didn't know if i'd be able to get ahold of the camper manufacturer or dealer.  i had just bought a lot of refrigerated food, and ended up drinking a lot of carrot juice that day or the next.  i didn't know what was wrong and if i was going to have to find some place to get it fixed while on my trip.  luckily i heard back from the dealer the next day who said it might be the gfi switch that got bumped.  i didn't even know there was a switch at the bottom of the breaker box, though it did the trick.  something must've hit it on the way up or down the winding switchbacks.  i ended up staying at a rest area a little south of the border, and wrote about my frustrations of being on the road (and life) that evening.  there was certainly a bit of a learning experience to be had when traveling across the country in a camper.

i woke up this day at the rest stop just over the oregon border and explored some of eastern oregon.  i had never been to this part of the state and it was very different than the northwestern part i'd previously seen.. it had a very dry feel to it like the states i had just been in.  perhaps it was due to the drought that year, though there still seemed to be a different feeling in the air.. i recall signs of or the feel of old western culture like i'd seen in some places on the way there.

i drove through a national forest or two, and made a couple short stops there on my way to washington.  the day before i had booked my first campground stay, and i made it almost all the way there after leaving oregon.  i slept on the side of the road a little over half an hour away.  after ten days on the road, it was going to be nice to take a little break the following day.

it’d be much easier to do the aerial shots with a first person live view of what the camera is seeing or with a preprogrammed fly by gps waypoint system that modern quadcopters have.. not having either, i had to guess composition + direction and try to keep track of the tiny white dot in the sky and trust it’d come back :)

Fred Howard Park

remember to look for the beauty in the world.  going to nature and noticing the details & the unique expressions of the trees & plants is a simple way to begin to discover how beautiful planet earth is.

if we want to live in a peaceful world, we must choose to live with a state of inner peace.  we do this by facing the parts of ourselves that we may not like and fully accepting them.  by healing our shadows and subconscious programming, we free up energy so that we may naturally live in peace.

#nature #sunset #sky #clouds #trees #beauty #peace
remember that just because someone can take one to a higher state of consciousness through a powerful meditation, blessing, song, energy transmission, or other process, modality, or form, it does not mean that everything they say, think, or teach is necessarily true or correct.  as individually sovereign beings, it is up to each of us to use our own discernment to feel & know if anything we see or hear is aligned with the higher truth we know in our heart. at the same time, we must be open to new possibilities and not quickly brush someone off whom has an opposing view.

remember, you don't need to accept any of the stories being portrayed by anyone out there.  this illusion we call reality is created by the beliefs of the collective consciousness.  the more of us that choose to stop buying any of the various narratives that the mainstream is selling, the quicker we can create a beautiful new earth.  we simply do this by not giving our focus, attention, or energy to that which doesn't serve us, and we use that reclaimed energy/power to focus on what we do want to see in the world, either through direct action or in visualizing and feeling the way we desire (and following the divine inspiration we receive). we can all live in peace, health, and harmony with each other and the planet if we choose to believe this (and act upon this belief as we feel called to). or we can choose to live in fear, worry, anxiety, and constantly needing to follow/know what the news, big industries, corporations, or others whom have been influenced/manipulated by these want us to believe.  the choice is ours, up to each one of us individually.  the more of us that awaken and choose to live from a place of unconditional love, the quicker the new collective story of humanity unfolds.

in the journey of opening one's heart, one may find it helpful to limit time spent on activities that are more mind-based, such as working on projects that require a lot of mental problem solving, following a rigid schedule, or watching the news, competitive sports, serious dramas, or "how-to" programming.  learn to spend more time in heartfelt activities, such as going for a walk, sitting in nature, connecting with another, or watching videos that are funny or that open your heart into the life of another.  when living from the heart, solutions will be inspired, felt, or known intuitively, and life can flow much more smoothly than when constantly looking for an answer or trying to control the outcome with the mind.

in challenging times some may wish to simply go back to what used to be normal.. though why limit yourself to the past, when there’s always the option to choose to create something far better in the present and future? take some time to sit quietly right now, and feel in your heart what the highest vision of the future looks like.

the conservation and preservation of nature is one of the most important things we can do today.

a simple shift of perspective is all we need to see the bigger picture. i’ve driven by here countless times and have never seen it quite like this.

i’ve always been drawn to quiet, natural, and wide-open areas of #land.  i look forward to when i live in a quiet natural area, and am glad to have rural areas and nature preserves so close by in the meantime.  a drive to or through the country is a good break when living in dense urban or suburban areas.

i was originally going to go somewhere else instead of here, then spontaneously decided to head toward the nearby country area as i wasn't quite feeling the other spot i was thinking of going to.  i actually stopped somewhere else before this preserve, but i saw a few other cars there and preferred to get shots of the empty landscape without anyone walking on the paths (and wanted to be able to concentrate undisturbed while flying with some wind). when i first got to the big grass field for parking here, there were lots of bugs and i started to leave to go fly somewhere else, though am glad i decided to stop alongside the entrance road (and it was bug-free) so i could get these images.  as it was a little breezy i only took the mavic mini on a short flight not higher than 200 ft altitude.  if one looks closely at the shot facing south one can see the tampa skyline on the horizon ~17 miles away.

more photos while practicing #flying the #dji #mavic #mini #quadcopter #drone.  shot using timed shot interval mode, so more of what i happened to get rather than carefully composed.

in the last shot, one can see the intracoastal, dunedin causeway, and honeymoon island, 4 to 7.5 miles away by air.  at the left of the image one can see buildings on clearwater beach, over 10 miles away.  even on the low resolution instagram photo hints of this are visible when looking closely or zooming in.  i think that shot was at an altitude of a little under 400 feet, where most of the lower ones were somewhere around 100-150 ft.

(i had quickly edited this twice in the #instagram ios app, though there seems to be a bug where it is not applying the lux setting and most of the vibrancy is missing as the other settings were minor.  these copies are edited in the #snapseed ios app.. it’s not an exact match to what i had originally done in instagram, but looks much better than the instagram versions without the lux setting.  at some point i may stop editing (or spending as much time and effort) on the phone, as even when it does work right, the adjustments made on a tiny phone screen are not as good as i could get on the computer, and often the color or density is off since the phone screen isn’t calibrated like a computer monitor can be)

with seemingly so much going on in the #world, #remember to take a #break from each day to #meditate or to go for a #walk in the #park. simply surrounding yourself with #trees in #nature is #healing, and the beautiful #goldenhour #light reminds us how magnificent this planet is.

also remember to practice #gratitude. some times it’s easier than others, though if we take a moment to look at our lives, there is so much to be #grateful for [like, for those of here in #florida, we can be grateful these couple days of #winter aren't nearly as cold as in many other places. if in a cold place you don’t like, find what you can enjoy about the experience, like sitting by the fire or the magical feeling of the first snowfall of the season]. by shifting our energy to one of gratitude and appreciation, we'll begin to see more positive experiences show up in our lives.
often all we need to do to feel better and become more present is go on a short #walk in (or by) #nature.  #goldenhour #trees

i met a couple old friends at the arboretum this past saturday.  when i was surrounded by nature waiting for them that morning, i remembered why i got the van.  having a tiny home with me whenever i go exploring, especially to beautiful places, is certainly nice.  it may be small, though being able to go on more adventures and longer journeys is pretty awesome.  i've been so busy lately that i've barely taken it out wandering to new places.  sometimes you just gotta get up and go regardless of whether everything is ready or not.

after my friends left, i took a nap in the van and spent the rest of the afternoon in the arboretum.  it was great to have a comfy bed with me rather than having to drive to one when i was tired.  near the end of the day, it started raining and i got to experience how nice it was to be inside the van and simply be able to hop into the driver's seat without having to run around outside and get wet (like i would've had to do when in my truck camper).

i spent the night in the parking lot at my friend's office, which wasn't too exciting but a place nearby i could stay undisturbed.  sunday morning i decided to go back to the arboretum and spent the whole day there, again until when it closed at dusk.  i drove to a quiet spot that was the furthest from the nearby highways and spent a lot of the day in the van with all the doors open, letting a breeze pass through most of the time.  it was nice to experience having a tiny home in the middle of nature.  i look forward to when i have my own land and a larger tiny home in nature for when i'm not traveling.

i woke up in redwood national park today and went for a short drive up the road where i found a nice grove of trees.  i had seen the tall trees once before and was struck in awe by their beauty and presence.  i was excited to get to see them again, and at a new place i'd never been before (and one that wasn't crowded with tourists either). walking in the woods that morning was really nice.. the light, cool rain added to the experience of being in the forest of giant trees.  after exploring for a bit, i hopped in the truck and went to check out some of the neighboring park areas and then head south along the coast.  my truck got pretty dirty that day when wandering through one of the parks on a wet dirt road.  after finding some nice spots along the coast, i continued along u.s. highway 101 as it went further inland, and spent the night at a rest area just outside the avenue of giants.

four years ago today [2012.09.19]

sleeping under the stars, i woke up at ross lake national recreation area, and began exploring the area.  i found another nice overlook nearby and a waterfall further up the road.  this was a beautiful area that i never knew existed until i got there.  near the visitor center at north cascades national park, i went on a short walk to a spot where there was a view of the picket range.  i read the sign there that said the range was a number of miles away, a trek through complete wilderness.  i stood there in awe for a few moments as i felt a strong, chilling sense of the vast expanse of land and wilderness between where i was and the mountain range that looked like it was just right there.  the peaks didn't appear that far or large at first glance, and what looked like could've been small parts of one larger mountain were really the most rugged peaks in the contiguous united states, miles apart from each other.  this was another striking moment in realizing the vastness of nature and how small we are as humans.  i imagined what it must've been like just to get out to some place so remote without roads (and to the further peaks even deeper into the wilderness that i couldn't see).

afterwards, i headed west a bit and went up a dirt road to a trail.  i hoped to find a clear view of the mountain peaks to photograph, though from a girl i met who was working on the trail, it sounded like this wouldn't be the best spot for a clear shot.  going back down the windy dirt/rock road, my truck read slope angles of at least 11 degrees, or a 22% grade!  from the video clips, i may not have done it this time, though on some of these similar steep declines, i would put the truck in 4x4 low, which really helped to maintain a low speed without having to use or wear down the brakes on the descent.

this day marks a year of owning my truck.  it was nice to be on adventure out west with the truck and camper i had ordered the year before.  i had looked forward to this journey for some time.
