That’s all we get sometimes. As we grow, we learn to discern those that resonate with us more than others. Some parts make sense, while other parts are completely off. We learn to take the pieces that are most helpful to us in the moment and integrate those. Perhaps the other parts will help us at another point along the journey. Perhaps some of the other pieces will never help us as they were never intended to do so. Perhaps some of those pieces will take us in the opposite direction if we integrate them, and they are merely there as a challenge of sorts, so we may realize how far we’ve come along the path as we easily pass the test.
Here’s an interesting book to read or listen to: Butterflies Are Free To Fly: A New and Radical Approach to Spiritual Evolution by Stephen Davis. It’s a collection of the author’s own perspectives along his particular journey. I found some parts funny, some useful, and felt some would find several parts to be pretty controversial / opinionated. In speaking with my friend who recommended it, he mentioned parts of the book coming from a place of angst. Despite what one may see as limited perspectives, there are some good nuggets to get out of the book. [A path of surrender and acceptance can be quite helpful to many.] If anything, the whole movie theater metaphor is great! I’m not saying all the details are 100% true, especially as part of me didn’t fully resonate with his complete rejection of the ‘groups’ in the back of the theater, as some groups (perhaps not many) are useful, and all groups, even if not useful to those further on a path toward spiritual freedom, still do serve others who aren’t quite there yet. [I'd really only suggest this book if you're interested in it as entertainment of possibilities and learning what others are thinking/experiencing/attempting. There are some pretty good and useful parts, though there's a lot of crap [and potentially major misunderstandings of concepts] to filter through as well.
