After landing in Hawaii for the first time and running around shooting little planet stills around the island while testing/tweaking my technique (as I had just begun experimenting with the little planet stereographic projection look a week before my trip), I thought the next thing to do would be to create a time-lapse video as it’d look pretty amazing (and it had never been done before). Here’s my first attempt at manually creating it.. This is raw, unedited and unfinished.. it’s mainly a proof of concept.

I stood there for an hour walking around in circles as I rotated the camera to the multiple positions for each still shot in the time-lapse video… I had come up with the idea to calibrate a monopod for the correct rotation through the entrance pupil of the lens – while this works okay for stills (see the other little planet images I shot in Hawaii), it’s a bit problematic for video as I had to guesstimate the rotation spots each time around.. As this was quickly processed in an automated manner (from the unedited jpg’s) to see if it worked or not, there are stitching errors and the little planet doesn’t align properly on many frames (and appears to jump/dance around a bit!). I may come back to this in the future and manually go through the stitching process for each frame to correct the errors and render a smoother time-lapse..
